Setting Monthly Goals: a Guide to Success

The monthly setting goals an effective way to promote personal and professional growth. When we break down our larger annual visions into smaller, manageable goals, we find it easier to maintain focus and feel more motivated to move forward. Short-term goal planning allows us to regularly assess our progress and be flexible to adapt to changes.

What are your Monthly Goals?

Monthly goals are specific, measurable objectives that you plan to achieve in a given month. They help you focus on short-term tasks and your progress towards your long-term goals. Monthly goals are usually achieved in the following areas:

  1. Health: For example, exercise three times a week, drink 2 litres of water a day.
  2. Careers: For example, finding new clients, learning a new skill, taking a vocational course.
  3. Finance: For example, working out a monthly budget, increasing savings, reducing debt.
  4. Personal development: For example, reading a book a month, starting a new hobby, volunteering.
  5. Contacts: For example, meeting friends once a month, organising family events.

Monthly targets are typically set along SMART principles, i.e. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. These goals help maintain motivation, focus and regular self-assessment.

What are the Annual Objectives?

Annual goals are long-term objectives that you want to achieve in a given year. They are usually in line with your personal vision and your ideas for the future. Annual goals help you to focus and plan, and to make continuous progress. Some examples of annual goals:

    • To get a promotion.
    • Launch a new product or service.
    • Expand the network of professional contacts.
  2. Health:
    • Achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
    • Exercise regularly, such as running or going to the gym.
    • Learn a new sport or healthy cooking technique.
  3. Finance:
    • To build up an emergency reserve, for example 3-6 months of spending.
    • Pay back debts.
    • Start investing, for example by participating in a pension scheme.
  4. Personal development:
    • Learning a new language.
    • Completion of further professional training.
    • Read at least 12 books a year.
  5. Contacts:
    • Spend more time with family.

    • Join support communities.

1. Breaking down larger annual targets into monthly targets

1.1. Formulating the Annual Vision

  • Write down your annual goals: Think about what you want to achieve in the next 12 months, for example in your career, finances or health.
  • Be specific: For example, instead of "Increase my income by more than 10%", write "Achieve an annual income of HUF 2,000,000 from my business."

1.2. Setting monthly targets

  • Break down your annual targets: Choose which goal you want to focus on for the month.

2. Monthly Priorities Identification

2.1. Important and Urgent Tasks

  • Use a matrix: Create a 2×2 matrix with one axis representing urgency and the other axis representing importance.
  • Set your monthly priorities: Focus on the tasks that will help you achieve your monthly goals.

  • Classify the tasks: At the beginning of each week, write down a to-do list based on your monthly goals.

  • Use a diary: Every day, write down the steps you have taken to achieve your goals.

Hanem szándékosan elkerüli a döntést!

Mentoring vagy coaching? Mikor melyiket válasszuk?

Mentoring vagy coaching? Mikor melyiket válasszuk?

A mentorálás, mentoring és coaching különbsége látszólag egyszerű kérdés azonban a valóságban sokan összekeverik a kettőt, és rosszul választanak. Most segítünk eligazodni: megmutatjuk, mi micsoda, mikor melyiket érdemes választani, és hogyan hozod ki belőlük a legtöbbet.

The price of silent turnover: why external coaching is the most important HR strategy investment for 2026?

The price of silent turnover: why external coaching is the most important HR strategy investment for 2026?

Silent fluctuation is more insidious than dismissal. The employee stays, but his or her commitment declines - and this slowly, silently erodes performance.

In 2026, the question is not whether there will be fluctuations, but whether we will recognise the signs in time. Corporate external coaching helps to ensure that leaders are more stable, trust is strengthened and silent turnover does not become open turnover.

If you're an HR manager or CEO, this is not an extra development - it's a strategic decision.

How does knowledge become a real business outcome?

How does knowledge become a real business outcome?

Most of the leaders I meet have already participated in at least one or two leadership programmes. Some have done dozens of training courses. Yet, when I ask them what has changed in their organisation twelve months later - silence. Not one of shame, but of recognition: knowledge was plentiful, transformation less so.

Budapest is full of coaches. But you're not looking for a coach - you're looking for a good coach. The difference is like the difference between a good hairdresser and a not-bad hairdresser: after one you're fine, after the other you feel like a different person. We show you how to find him or her...
